Upper Extremity Pain
Hand, elbow, shoulder and arm pain can be a debilitating injury for many people. Figuring out what causes the arm pain can sometimes be half the battle. One of the things I tell my patients is the details matter. Where do you feel the pain? Is the pain in a specific location? Can you aggravate the pain by a certain action? Is there a location that is sensitive to touch?
Knowing these small details can help a skilled practitioner to identify what is specifically causing the pain itself. There are multiple different things that need to be considered when looking at arm pains. Is the pain joint related, muscle related, disc, bursitis, meniscus, labrum, or simply nerve entrapment. Any one of the above mentioned elements can cause arm pain so you have to be able to determine which one is the culprit and also be able to perform therapies specific to the injury.
Lower Extremity pain
If you’ve never suffered leg pain you’re definitely lucky. Considering humans are bipedal, it's extremely hard to get around without irritating leg pains. Whether it's your foot, ankle, knee, hip, or sacroiliac joint all of them can play an important role in causing leg pain. It’s extremely important to look at all the muscles and joints when someone comes in for leg pain as the root cause of the pain could stem from anywhere in the kinematic chain of how our bodies move and transfer weight. Much like arm pain there are multiple different things that need to be considered when looking at leg pains.
